Greetings Council members,
Please forgive me for overstepping the mark but I need to bring this
up with higher authority. The state of our LoCos worldwide is in a
shocking state imo. Officially that is.
http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/
I have managed to get many previously dead locos in Africa to join
the ubuntu-africa group on irc #ubuntu-africa. and recently have
been involved in getting the Bangladesh admins to approve 35 members
some of who had been waiting for more than 2 years. Pakistan is also
not active on launchpad with 9 new applicants waiting.
This new objective started when a Ubuntu user applied for ubuntu
membership with absolutely no support or guidance from his loco,
because they hadn't even approved his application to join them after
a year. That imo is not the way to promote and spread ubuntu.
It seems that many areas are just using facebook for communication.
That might be fine for local help and chats but as far as I
understand one needs to go the traditional Launchpad and Wiki route
to apply for Ubuntu membership and get involved in dev work and
maybe bugsquad work. Can this matter please be brought up at your
next meeting and can we try find a workaround or at least share
ideas on how to sort this problem out. I am sure we are missing out
on some clever help from new applicants that don't know how the
whole Ubuntu community works. Or as we used to work or should be
working.
Please feel free to tell me to leave these matters to those in the
position to sort these problems out.
Thanks for all the hard work everyone
Miles
